Art & Illustration
Example Projects
A selection of commissions and personal projects. I’ve recently started experimenting with AI for filling out backdrops for speed, such as the Haven concept pictures, but always repaint them myself.
Excluding bits of scenery in the first 2 images, everything here was painted by hand (on a tablet).
Haven:
An old concept for a racing game, built around strange vehicles and all terrain navigation where players can cheat when off camera as well as bet and fix races in a post-cataclysm society. However unlike most of post-apocalyptic worlds, Haven cities are flourishing, advanced societies, but due to tectonic instability, stable ground is rare. The powers that be decide to combine land prospecting with entertainment, launching probes far, and setting up races to collect them.
Due to the abundance of energy and tech, vehicles come in all sorts of strange designs, such as the scorpion bikes or bounder bikes.
The Sky Within me:
A joint project with my brother, producing artworks for people based on their specific astrology birth charts. Each picture represents the 10 celestial positions of their birth, as well as aspects of the person personal identity,
Of Dice & Them:
I am a co-founder of a CIC providing inclusive gaming communities in the local area, so on top branding and advertising media, I’ve also done a bunch of character design commissions for people. All by hand, (minus the cape on that dwarf, that as a later addition request).
Lawrence Jackson School Comics
I had a recent contract for the National Literacy Trust where I was asked to give art seminars are Lawrence Jackson school in Guisborough, teaching about graphic novels and illustration, with Dungeons and Dragons as the theme. (Client request)
The children’s abilities were pretty limited for the most part, so instead of trying to get them to create something entirely on their own, I had them rough out a short story for a comic in groups, after which I would take their drawings and suggestions and turn them into short comics.
Each comic features the kids’ originally drawings on the front. It took a silly amount of time and turned a very well paid job into a very poorly paid one, but I wanted to make the kid’s day, so it was worth it…. kind of.
